Angelinos Vote! Your Vote Matters!

Latinos make up nearly half of Los Angeles County’s population, making them a crucial voting bloc. Their numbers have been steadily growing, influencing local, state, and national elections. The community is diverse, with roots in various Latin American countries, including Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and others. Common issues that resonate with Latino voters in Los Angeles include immigration reform, healthcare, education, economic opportunities, and housing. Understanding and engaging with Latino voters in Los Angeles is crucial for any political campaign aiming to succeed in the region. Their impact on the electoral landscape is substantial and continues to grow. Yet, underinvestment in and ineffective outreach to these voters persist. The My Vote. My Health.™ (MVMH) initiative is here to change the narrative and invest in our community.

Led by AltaMed Health Services the Los Angeles Civic Health Coalition brings together community health centers, community-based organizations, and the local regional consortium to conduct voter outreach and education in LA County. Members of the coalition include AltaMed Health Services, Wesley Health Centers, Northeast Valley Health Corporation, Council of Mexican Federations, Mi Familia en Acción, and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County.

Spotlight

In the Antelope Valley where health care is crucially needed for this growing population center, Wesley Health Centers, is a staple for providing comprehensive health and social services to those people whom are underserved in Lancaster, Palmdale, and surrounding communities. As part of the My Vote My Health mission of activating civic engagement in the communities that Wesley Health Centers serves, it was important to the agency to implement the campaign at our Antelope Valley sites in Lancaster and Palmdale.

Lissette Caldera leads our My Vote. My Health.efforts in the Antelope Valley, working with JWCH since March as an In-clinic Promotora. Daily, she engages directly with patients, encouraging them to vote and stay civically involved during the election season and beyond. Her educational efforts are crucial, as understanding voting and public policy impacts everyday life and improves health and well-being. Lissette also conducts patient surveys to gauge election engagement and awareness of government levels. In her short time, she has successfully connected with Wesley Health Centers staff, ensuring their involvement in the campaign. Lissette is a valuable asset to Wesley Health Centers and the Antelope Valley community, and we appreciate her hard work every day.
